Katie BillingtonSTEAM teacher
My educational background:

I received my BS in Elementary Education from Elon University. I have had the privilege to work in the public school system as well as the private education sector for over 17 years, serving as a classroom teacher, consultant, and staff support for educators.

My certifications:

I have my NC license in K-6 Elementary Education.

My social/emotional trainings:

I am grateful for the professional development I’ve received in social-emotional learning, as well as the personal experiences that have shaped my growth. My psychology coursework, ongoing professional training, and personal therapy journey have all equipped me with a variety of tools to support students’ social and emotional well-being.

My favorite teacher from my past:

I can still remember sitting on the carpet with my second grade teacher, Mrs. Hayes, like it was yesterday. She had a way of making learning fun and each student felt seen and cared for and it has stuck with me throughout my life.

What do I love about Epiphany?

What I love most about Epiphany is the students and the strong sense of community. It is truly a gift to be part of such a special place. Every student here is seen and valued, and the campus fosters a safe and supportive environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.

How does teaching and working with children inspire me?

Teaching and working with children inspires me because it’s rooted in encouragement and lifelong learning. I love seeing how a simple word of support can light up a child’s confidence, and I’m equally inspired by the way children remind me that learning never stops. Their curiosity, resilience, and joy challenge me to keep growing right alongside them.

My spirit animal:

I suppose a dolphin- intelligent, social, and high-energy, but also playful and easygoing

My favorite movie:

I love The Goonies for adventure and nostalgia or the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice for a good comfort watch.

My favorite board game:

I absolutely love most any game, but can be found playing Mahjong the most often!

My favorite book:

I keep a regular rotation in my Kindle of beach reads, but my favorite picture book is The Oak Inside the Acorn which always reminds me that “from small acorns, might oaks grow.”

My Interests and hobbies:

I love reading, traveling, playing outside with my kids, and I’m always up for a game of mahjong!

My origins, travels and/or adventures:

I spent my high school years in Charlotte, went to college and returned right home to begin teaching. I’ve been fortunate to travel to places all over the world, but have had some unique opportunities to help train teachers in school in Burundi and Haiti.

My favorite thing to do, place to go, or eatery in Charlotte:

I love to linger over a good meal outside at nearly any great restaurant in town.
