At the Epiphany School of Charlotte, every child has a unique story filled with moments worth celebrating and supporting. One such inspiring story is that of Camden, a vibrant and imaginative fifth-grader who has found his place in the nurturing environment of Epiphany. Camden’s world is full of creativity, where he explores his love for video games, artistic endeavors, and the elaborate celebrations of Halloween. However, Camden’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges, as he was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD at the age of 5. Traditional schooling proved to be overwhelming, but he found his pace at Epiphany.
Camden’s Early Challenges:
Camden’s early years were marked by difficulties in focusing, frequent meltdowns, and struggles with transitions. The conventional classroom setting, with 25 students, only intensified his challenges. According to Camden’s Mom, Traci,
“The large classroom of 25 was overwhelming for him. His classwork suffered, and he wasn’t getting the tools to survive the day without a meltdown.”
The Epiphany Impact:
Just one year at Epiphany has brought about a remarkable change in Camden. He now exhibits greater self-awareness and emotional control, enabling him to articulate his feelings and make necessary adjustments when overwhelmed. Traci saw when the transformation became evident when
“Cam started hanging his work and certificates on our fridge. He now takes pride in his work and is confident in showing it off.”
Epiphany’s supportive environment has empowered Camden to embrace his uniqueness and build the skills he needs for the future.
Camden’s Favorite Aspects of Epiphany:
For Camden, one of the most cherished aspects of Epiphany is the friendships he has developed. The school has provided him with essential tools to navigate social interactions confidently. He’s learning how to make and maintain friendships in a healthy and meaningful way, a vital skill that will serve him throughout his life.
Camden’s colorful world is a reflection of the vibrant community that surrounds him, fostering his creativity, compassion, and confidence. His story serves as a reminder of the incredible potential that can be unlocked when children receive the right guidance and support, just as Camden has at Epiphany.
“I have been so grateful to the Epiphany staff for my son’s progress that I wanted to give back. The Epiphany community is supportive, patient and inclusive.” -Traci on why she decided to join The Epiphany Board of Directors
